Brian Clancy

Brian Clancy is from Cloneen, Co Tipperary and lives with his family in nearby Modeshill, Mullinahone. He has worked with writing groups and workshops including Grubb Street in Boston, Cambridge and Boston Adult Ed Fiction and the NUIM Writing for Publication, Kilkenny. His short stories have been published in numerous magazines and anthologies, including UL’s The Ogham Stone, The Clonmel Elders and Artisans Projects and the Winter Miscellany Anthology. Brian’s screenplay, The Tarantula and the Frog was made into a film in 2019. His play, The Year of ’21, based upon events during the War of Independence in the Cloneen area was shown on many stages by the Fionn MacCumhaill Players including Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre and the Source in Thurles. Most recently, in 2025, Brian co-wrote and co-produced a film with director Ann Williamson about the death of Bridget Cleary and to date has received various accolades, including Winner of Best Director and a shortlist in three categories in the Indie X Film Festival in Los Angeles. Brian is a carpenter and an English and History teacher in CTI, Clonmel.
